MICROPHONE 2 OF 3

DJI Mic 3

More memory, less battery!

Only slightly bigger than the mini 2s. A small microphone that clips onto your shirt, and saves the recordings locally.

2025 model

How new is it?

Launched 28 August 2025. About 14 months old at the 21 October 2026 research date.

Wear it

Attach the magnetic clip to clothing, or place the magnet behind light fabric. The microphone and recorder stay together on your shirt.

Charge it

Use the Mic 3 magnetic charging cable or matching charging case. DJI quotes about 50 minutes for a full transmitter charge under test conditions.

Copy recordings

Export WAV files to a computer through the magnetic cable or charging case, or download through DJI Mimo. Files split every 30 minutes.

THE NUMBERS

Standalone recording batteryAbout 7.5 or 5.5 hours

Unpaired transmitter: 7.5 hours recording one 24-bit file; 5.5 hours recording dual 32-bit float files. DJI tests in an interference-free environment; actual runtime varies.

Internal recording storage21.5 to 57.3 hours

32GB built in (about 27.9GB usable). Single file: 57.3 hours at 24-bit or 43 hours at 32-bit float. Dual files: 28.6 or 21.5 hours respectively. Storage capacity, not battery life.

Transmitter with magnet16g, about 29mm wide

28.77 x 28.34 x 16.35mm with magnet. About 12.5g excluding the magnetic clip and magnet.

Battery figures are manufacturer claims. Storage duration and battery endurance are different limits.

BUYING OPTIONS

Can you buy just the transmitter?

Yes. DJI sells a separate Mic 3 transmitter; a receiver is not required for internal recording.

Transmitter only

Includes the magnetic charging cable, magnetic clip, magnet, two windscreens and compact pouch. No receiver or charging case.

Receiver and case kits

A receiver adds camera, phone and computer connections. The two-transmitter kit includes a charging case and a second transmitter to rotate while charging.

Swapping transmitters makes separate recordings and is not a tested gap-free all-day setup. Mic 3 transmitters do not pair with Mic 2 or Mic Mini receivers. DJI transmitter listing

What you gain

  • Records locally without a phone, camera, or receiver.
  • Can save original and processed audio together, including 32-bit float WAV.
  • Small enough to clip onto clothing or attach with a magnet, without a lapel cable.

What you work around

  • One charge does not cover a 16-hour day. The advertised 8-hour wireless figure has internal recording off; the case adds recharges, not uninterrupted recording.
  • Battery and memory are built in; there is no microSD expansion or replaceable AAA battery.
  • Loop recording can overwrite the oldest files when full. Check that setting and back up recordings regularly.
